Replacing the liner on an in ground, -or inground- pool is a big investment, and needs to be done properly. In ground pool liners should be carefully measured to fit the pool perfectly, without wrinkles or hollow areas. A properly fitted liner will have no wrinkles, and should fit tightly at the corners. Obviously, a carelessly measured liner results in a poor fit, and will result in premature liner failure, so it is wise to have an expert measure and install your liner.
At A-Pro Services, when we measure and install your inground liner, we guarantee it to fit. We measure for the liner very accurately, and use a liner vacuum specifically designed for installation of in ground liners. We vacuum the liner into place, and the perfect fit is verified before we add a single drop of water. Only then do we proceed to install the liner. This also helps us to make sure that the liner is installed evenly, with approximately equal amounts of stretch throughout the liner. The result is that the liner lasts longer, looks better, and is less likely to be damaged.
Wrinkles in the liner are not just ugly, they are a nuisance! They collect dirt and algae, and increase the chances of damage due to cuts from the vacuum head, or sticks when using the net, and some automatic vacuums will get stuck on them.
Hollow places behind the liner, like at the corners, put undue stress on the liner, and also increase the chances of puncture or cuts. Hail can ruin a liner, especially above the waterline in corners and radiuses, if they are not properly fitted. In these areas, the liner is stretched very tight, is more horizontal, and has no backing. Hail can go right through the liner! Hail, of course, often comes with rain. If a hole is punctured at the water line, and then the pool water level rises, the liner can float, and sometimes rip, and usually the liner develops those pesky wrinkles discussed earlier.
A properly fitted liner can mean the difference between whether the liner lasts 3, 5, 10, or even 20 years. With the average cost of liner replacement being $2500 to $3000, a poor fit can cost a lot of money!
